UAC Community Art Portraits
Urban Art Collective is a group of street artists, photographers, graphic designers, illustrators, painters, and everyone in between. Their goal is to make art accessible to everyone, and help support local artists through their community hub, art markets, products, and workshops.
I collaborated with UAC on this portrait series to spotlight the collective’s artists, as well as general members of the community.
Being interested in the psychological research of play and creativity in adulthood, I wanted to evoke a fun, lighthearted spirit with each session, drawing out their inner child with an interactive experience.
My concept was executed in three streps. First, the subject was asked to draw anything they wished on a sheet of paper. Next, I photographed a number of portraits of them, taking inspiration from their artwork, and capturing genuine moments in between. Finally, I merged both their doodle and portrait in Photoshop, creating the final image.
The project concluded with 101 final images that are on permanent display at the UAC Hub in Ottawa. A sampling of those images can be seen below.
